General Dentistry

Let’s get one misconception straightened out – there is no such thing as ‘an NHS dentist’.

Each of the dentists in Monifieth Dental Clinic have contracts allowing us to provide NHS dental treatment however we are not limited to this. We can also provide high level dental care on a private basis. You should ask your dentist about the difference – it is not always the just the cost.

NHS Dental Services

Every patient that attends Monifieth Dental Clinic will be offered registration for treatment under NHS terms. This entitles patients to all treatment available under NHS terms that is necessary to achieve and maintain oral health and function. There is no provision for any aesthetic treatment under NHS terms. We are also finding that providing the most appropriate care (resin fillings, orthodontic treatment, etc) is not possible due to ever increasing regulations.

NHS dentistry is heavily subsidised by the Scottish Government which also sets the fee scale which is the same for every dentist in Scotland.

Private Dental Services

Patients can keep their NHS registration yet still take advantage of the benefits of care under a private arrangement. This allows you, the patient, to be fully involved with your dental care as your dentist will have more time to discuss and agree on your dental care plan.

Unlike NHS dentistry there are no restrictions on the care we are able to provide. For example, our private care enables us to provide tooth coloured fillings which are almost indistinguishable from natural teeth. Privately made crowns, bridges and dentures are also custom made by highly skilled and experienced technicians using some of the most up to date equipment in Scotland.

Preventive payment plan

Currently under development, Monifieth Dental Clinic will soon be offering our patients the opportunity to benefit from our preventive focus and also budget for any treatment that may be required.

It is hoped that through regular preventive advice and options that the need for treatment will be minimised however in the event of treatment being required our payment plan will enable patients to receive the best quality private care at heavily discounted fees.
